Immerse yourself in breathtaking scenery |
The scenery is spectacular, far more than just a backdrop to the region's many attractions and is worth taking a look at in itself! And if you tire of the quiet life, Ireland's second city, Cork, is overflowing with ways to inject a little excitement into your break.
THE WIDER REGION
Kilkenny, a popular tourist destination, is less than an hour's drive from Lismore and boasts a Castle, excellent shopping and Ireland's leading craft centre.
Cork city is just under an hour away by car and places of interest here include the Lewis Glucksman Gallery in UCC, Crawford Art Gallery, Cork City Gaol and, depending on the time of year you are visiting, the city hosts many great cultural events and festivals. About eight miles from Cork is Blarney Castle, famed for its Blarney stone which is reputed to give the ‘gift of the gab’ to those who kiss it.
Waterford city is much the same distance in the opposite direction and is famous for Waterford Crystal. The newly opened Visitor Centre (June 2010) features demonstrations of traditional methods of glass blowing and crystal making and an insight into the history of this world-renowned brand.
